What affects the price
Weight is the main driver. A cat or small dog sits at the bottom of the range; a 60kg dog needs a larger chamber and more time. Rabbits, guinea pigs and birds are priced below cats.
Individual (private) cremation - one pet, one chamber, ashes returned - costs more than communal, where several pets are cremated together and ashes are not returned.
Metro collection is usually included. Regional pickups and after-hours collection can carry a fee - a fair provider quotes it on the phone before anything is booked.
A standard urn or scatter tube should be included. Upgraded urns, clay paw prints, and ash jewellery are optional extras - never surprise line items.
The question that matters more than price
If you're comparing quotes, the number tells you less than the inclusions. Ask every provider: is collection included? Is the urn included? Is the ashes return hand-delivered or couriered? And the big one - how do I know I receive my pet's ashes?
A provider with a documented chain of care will answer plainly. One without will talk about compassion instead.

Why do prices vary so much between providers?
Inclusions. Some quotes exclude collection, the urn, or the certificate, and add them later. Ask for the all-in price with collection, cremation, urn and hand-return included - that's how we quote.
Does pet insurance cover cremation?
Some Australian policies contribute to euthanasia and aftercare costs, but most standard policies don't cover cremation itself. Check your PDS for "euthanasia" and "burial or cremation" benefits. We cover this in detail in our pet insurance guide.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes - ask when you call. We'd rather split a payment than have cost add stress to an already hard week. There's no credit check and no interest.
What about water cremation (aquamation)?
Aquamation is a gentler, lower-emission alternative offered in some Australian cities, usually priced slightly above flame cremation. If you'd prefer it, call us - where a vetted aquamation partner operates in your area, we'll arrange it.
Is a cheaper communal cremation "worse"?
No - it's a dignified choice made by many families. The one thing to be certain of: with communal cremation, ashes are not returned. If getting the ashes back matters to you, you need individual cremation.
